My Skincare Routine
I have been asked recently about my skin care routine and what products I use, so I thought I'd share this with all of you in the form of a blog post. Only recently have I really been loving my skin and it's all thanks to these products. It took a lot of trial and error, but I am really happy with my skin and how it's been looking and feeling.
Morning
I start the day with immediately washing my face. I'll use Simple face wipes or Drunk Elephant's Pekee bar to get all of the night's oils off. I follow that up with May Coop's Raw Sauce, which is an essence that become popular in K-beauty. It essentially preps the skin to let the following products better penetrate for their maximum effect.
The next 2 items I try really hard to remember to use daily. The problem is that the benefits you see are not immediate and so if I'm running late, they'll be the first to get skipped. Vitamin C helps with collagen production and of course sunscreen helps keep your skin looking young. I love Cosmetic Skin Solution's Vitamin C+E serum - it has rave reviews and is a great price for the amount of product you get. My favorite face sunscreen that I've found is Shieido's. It's not greasy and is so silky and smooth when it goes on.
I have recently found The Body Shop's Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion and can't imagine my life without it anymore. I have combination oily skin, so this is so perfect for me. It moisturizes but really does a great job mattifying the skin. An added bonus is that it also helps with breakouts! Last but not least, I like to use Caudalie's Beauty Elixir (and I found it in this gorgeous bottle!) to either set my makeup or before my moisturizer. It helps tighten the appearance of pores and reduces dullness, as well as being a great setting spray. Win-win-win!
Evening
My nightly routine starts after makeup removal. I wash my face about every other night with my Clarisonic Mia 2 using either Origins Checks and Balances Face Wash or the Clarisonic Deep Pore Cleanser that comes with the device. The device is gentle on the skin and my skin has never felt cleaner than after I use it. I always think of it like if you were to paint a bumpy wall - if you used just your fingers, it wouldn't be able to penetrate into the cracks, but using a brush would reach deeper. That's similarly to how this product works. Clarisonic started the sonic skin cleansing in 2004 and are the #1 more recommended skin cleansing devices by US dermatologists. It makes an amazing gift - I actually got my sister one for Christmas last year! The Mia 2 kit comes with the device, the Deep Pore Daily Cleanser, Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask, and a Deep Pore brush head. I also like the Acne Cleansing brush head and the Radiance brush head. It works for all skin types and is waterproof, so I always use it in the shower.
On days I don't use the Clarisonic, I'll wash my face with Drunk Elephant's Juju bar (this travel version of the juju and pekee bar is my favorite!) I have mentioned Drunk Elephant above, but I really love their products. I use their T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night serum daily and it has made a world of a difference on my skin. It helps with blemishes, dull skin, uneven skin tone and texture, and has made acne scars disappear for me. It's as close to a holy grail product for me that I've found. I'll follow that up with Drunk Elephant's Virgin Marula oil and then Ole Hendrickson's Sheer Transformation - that stuff makes my skin so so smooth!
I will also use IT Cosmetic's Bye Bye Undereye Eye Cream to help with my dark circles. Whenever I need to help with a blemish, I'll use The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil (alternatively, I also like Origin's Super Spot Remover Acne Gel) and it's one of the best acne spot treatments I've found. About twice a week I will use Derma E's Microdermabrasion Scrub, which has really helped with acne scars and exfoliates my skin so perfectly.
