Home Try-Ons for Spring
It’s been a while, but I’m so excited to get another Home Try-On up for you guys! They’re one of your favorite kinds of posts, so I want to try to do them more often. Seeing clothes on a “real” body as opposed to a model in a studio where it’s meant to look as good as it can helps when shopping and deciding on an item, or at least for me! Below are the pieces I’ve been trying lately.
Free People Everywhere You Go Paperbag Waist Shorts (6) - Yes, clearly I need to learn how to tie a bow better haha. But I’m surprised at how much these shorts work for me! I’ve always thought of Paperbag shorts as only for tall, skinny people, but I’m loving how they look! They are also extremely comfortable.
M Gemi The Lasso Basso (7) - The leather is such a great quality and perfectly supple and buttery. The ties are soft and flexible so they don’t rub or restrict. They are on sale, but still a bit pricey, but totally worth it in my opinion.
Lou & Grey Softserve Linen Shirttail Tee (M) - Who can resist a good white tee? Linen is all the rage right now, and I am drinking that Kool-Aid. The shirttail comes up a little high on the sides, so skin will show if you don’t wear high-waisted bottoms, so keep that in mind.
Loeffler Randall Estelle Slingback Pump (7) - This was a top item on my wishlist for a while, so when they went on sale, I jumped on it! They’re so comfortable and go with everything - a must-have item in my opinion!
BB Dakota Skip the Lines Pant (6) - I really, really wanted to love these pants! They’re so fun and would a fun work staple. But the vertical lines really show any small bump or curve and this postpartum body was amplified by these pants. The lines also come together at the seam at an odd spot between the legs. Unfortunately, they were returned.
J Crew Square-Neck Long-Sleeve Top in 365 Crepe (8) - Guys I swear I cleaned my mirror before shooting these haha. I sized up in this top per reviews and am glad I did. There’s also some slight ruching on the sleeves so they stay up on your shoulders. I love the square neckline a lot as it adds a unique touch to an otherwise basic black work top.
Sam Edelman Hilty Booties (7.5) - So comfy! And chic! And so loved by people - just look up the reviews! I size up half a size in boots and I would recommend doing so for these booties. There’s something so classic about a black suede bootie, and the pointed toe on this pair with the comfortable block heel makes them a perfect candidate.
Madewell Button-Waist Wrap Midi Dress (6) - I am so so sad this dress didn’t work for me. If you have any sort of chest, it just doesn’t work. I tried to keep the photo PG for you guys, but you know, I wanted to keep it real as well. I’ve been on the hunt for a pink linen midi dress but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me.
Madewell The Boardwalk Bare Sandal (7) - I loved how these sandals looked online and thought they’d be a great choice for a walking sandal this summer, but they were really uncomfortable. The leather on the toe ring dug into the skin between my toes and would hurt when I walked. Kinda makes for a non-functional shoe. Sadly these were a pass.
Free People Beach Day Off T-Shirt Midi Dress (S) - I originally ordered this dress in the ‘nectar’ color, but exchanged it for the black as it was a little too orange for me. However, I still am not sure it’s worth $60 for just a tee dress. I am obsessed with the fact that it has pockets, but the neckline is a little too high for my short neck so it’s not the most flattering there.
Sam Edelman Laurna Mules (7) - Such a great Gucci Princetown loafer dupe! I did a review on a different dupe a few years ago, but I honestly kinda like this pair better! They are a little more authentic to the real version and come in more colors. The nude is a great alternative to the black one I already had and have already gotten so much wear from me!
Anthropologie Maeve Southern Silk Blouse (6) - I loved the fun print mixing in this top, and especially love how it’s silk. It’s a fun-yet-muted top that I can wear to work, with a cute skirt, or even out with dark jeans and a heel. Plus, the affordable sale price makes it more tempting!
Sezane Clement Jumper (M) - The fabric of this cotton sweater is so cozy, and pretty heavy - which I love! Because of the heavier fabric it drapes beautifully and makes me feel so warm. It’s impeccably made and will be a lasting sweater in my closet.
Madewell Brownstone Flecked Pullover Sweater (M) - What initially drew me to this sweater was all the flecked details, and it’s even prettier in person. I love all the colors that are incorporated in the sweater, but it still somehow looks like a neutral. It’s definitely cropped, so I’ll only be able to wear it with high-waisted skirts and pants, but with the sale price, it’s a no-brainer.
Eileen Fisher Classic Crinkle Organic Cotton Shirtdress (S) - Ooooh what a soft dress this is! The fabric is gauzy and breezy, with a soft crosshatch textured pattern. I didn’t keep it because I feel like while it’s a gorgeous and soft dress, it’s something that I didn’t love what I paid for it. I’d probably use it a lot as a swimsuit coverup, so it’s not worth spending too much on. Could be a great staple piece though!
Madewell The Scarlett Tall Boot in Suede (7.5) - I can’t believe that I didn’t already own a knee-high boot ! I used to think they wouldn’t work with my short frame, but I love this pair. The slouch is perfect and I am obsessed with the color. I got them at a great price due to it being the end of boot season, so I’m excited to break these out this fall!
J Crew Short Sleeve Button-Up Shirt in Wide Stripe (M) - I saw one of my favorite Instagrammers (@saracovey) wear this top and immediately fell in love. The yellow and white stripes are perfect for summer and reminded me of sherbet ice cream. However, they also remind me of like a cruise employee in the Bahamas or something haha.
Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Jeans (28 Ankle) - The ankle length for these jeans is perfect for me (I’m 5’2”) and I love the wash on these jeans - it looks much better in person than on their website. I’ve already worn them so much since I got them! And they are a great price at $88.
Topshop Moto Jamie High Waist Black Jeans (28x28) - I’ve heard great things about the Jamie jeans from Topshop, and needed a new pair of black skinny jeans, so I snagged this pair. They run small, so make sure to size up. Even this pair was way too tight. The black is a true black though, and they didn’t come with that “black dye” smell.
J Crew Point Sur Button-Back Sweater in Waffled Supersoft Yarn (S) - If you are on the hunt for a seriously soft sweater, this one is for you. They come in a few great colors, as I also have this one in olive. I love the button-up detail on the back and the slouchy fit. It’s a great option for those chilly spring nights!
